"Putting forth the Extra Effort to Ensure Academic Excellence"
Eastern Kentucky University offers a comprehensive support program for college students with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder and other cognitive disorders. Upon admittance, Project SUCCESS develops an individualized program of services which serve to enhance the academic success of each student.
Project SUCCESS is exactly what its name implies- a pathway to academic success. Whether you are an incoming freshman or a transfer student, our goal for you is the same- to see you complete a two-or-four-year degree. At the core of our program is Academic Coaching and individualized tutoring services. Our program is selective and has limited enrollment.
What is offered?
- Academic Coaching
Academic Coaching is a designed alliance between a coach and a student for the purpose of fostering successful skills in an educational environment. It is an individual process that facilitates goal clarification and achievement. The process focuses on helping the student to develop and implement strategies, problem-solving and building self-advocacy skills. Coaches motivate students to achieve, become cheerleaders when necessary, provide a needed accountability factor, provide structure, support and feedback, and facilitate overall student success.
- Individualized Tutoring
Project SUCCESS offers outstanding tutoring services including both individualized tutoring and an open tutoring lab inside the Center for Student Accessibility. Our tutors are upperclassmen undergraduate and graduate students who receive specialized training to work with PS students. When students are accepted into the program and are assigned to tutors, they agree to meet with tutor(s) at least twice a week.
- Focus Groups
Program students also commit to attending focus groups that cover a variety of relevant topics. Focus group topics may include transitioning to campus life, time management, learning strategies, active test taking and much more!
- Disability Services
Note taking services, books on CD or electronic textbooks, equipment loan, training and use of assistive technology and test accommodations are all offered to our PS students.
The Project SUCCESS Program is a fee-based program. Most often, our student's participation in project SUCCESS is funded by their counselor from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR). Please contact your OVR or your high school counselor to obtain contact information. If a student is not funded by an OVR Counselor, the fee can be paid by the family.
Specifically available to students from the Appalachian Regions of Kentucky is our Application Tutoring Grant. This grant is funded by the Kentucky Department of Education. The grant provides students from 51 Kentucky Appalachian counties with the opportunity to participation in project SUCCESS for FREE! Students are required to provide documentation of county of residence.
